- Affordable Housing
This quaint town required more affordable housing but could not sacrifice on historic aesthetics. The Studio 343 design masses the homes to look like single family houses and borrows regional architectural details such as standing seam metal roofs and white washed brick to meet the needs of the historic design review committee. The use of 3D renderings helped educate local citizens and review boards about the design. In a pioneering move, the developer utilized geothermal heating and cooling, a first for a Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) project, which helped it achieve an EarthCraft certification.
