This home successfully wears two faces. A twist of zoning — the home is in a marina — required a building that was both historic and modern, residential and commercial. The street view blends with the historic residential district, while the water aspect is commercial with nautical appeal. The owner wanted to feel like he was inside a boat when he was home, so the roof of the third floor living area is ribbed like the hull of a wooden ship. The duality of the project allowed for unique materials in a residential setting, like the use of commercial storefront window walls. Angular covered porches and a semi-circular wall of glass jut into the marina like the prow of a ship, providing spectacular views and a modern aesthetic.
